For Dad:

·      Dad would have been honored, but also a little embarrassed, he wasn’t real comfortable with personal accolades.

·      He was so committed to education—as a principal he held his teachers to a level of excellence, also his students, but always himself.

·      He was fair…without exception, and you always knew where you stood with Dad.

·      Through the years some of his students have told me, “your Dad really paddled my butt…but I deserved it. And when it was all over, we shook hands and parted friends…I respected him for that.”

·       He had his serious side, but those of you who knew him, knew how he loved to tease. The whoopee cushion under your chair, the fake vomit, or the little green feet which went up the wall…were all part of the playfulness he enjoyed with his staff and his students.

·      He loved children, while he wanted each of them to do their best…he also encouraged them to be proud of what they could do.

·      He never stopped growing or learning, and he encouraged others to continue in their education—regardless of their occupation. There were times when he sat down with someone and showed him ways he could continue with further education…he firmly believed “that if there’s a will, there’s a way.”

In his living he demonstrated a life-long commitment to reaching out and helping others.
